Yes, I have a mirror gene

Do you know about the mirror gene theory?  Getting so into things just by watching it.  I so experience it often as an adult.  I am way into my teams {football}. I bond with my girlfriends while they are telling stories.  And I can't watch many horror movies {my fella hates this}.

Soooooo, I've been following Modern Madness on Fat Quarterly and have felt the joy of my favorite fabrics winning.  Until tonight's post from Fat Quarterly. [Sniff sniff]

Sherbet Pips by Aneela Hoey was crushed  defeated by Bliss by Bonnie & Camille.  Nothing against Bliss, I think I few pieces in my stash.  {If I don't I know that I've picked it up a few times in my LQS.}  But my precious Pips lost.

No matter!  I'll be picking up yardage of Sherbet Pips when it comes out in yardage in a few days/weeks.  YEAH! Picking up yardage will add to the winnings I got this last winter from Traci at Stolen Moments. BTW she's having another yummy giveaway right now.  {I don't even get another entry by saying this}

I'll be visiting a few LQS's in Bend, Oregon next week and I'll hope that two of the shops may have some Pips for me to purchase.  If not I have a few web shops that will be seeing a few of my dollars soon.

Well at least in the Modern Madness my Central Park by Kate Spain is still holding strong.  I do have a lot of this yardage and pre-cuts of Central Park just waiting to be made into something.

Okay. . makes me feel better just to say I LOVE Sherbet Pips!

April - Aqua & Orange Bee Block

http://www.flickr.com/groups/aqua-n-orange/
Yep another on-line bee.  I might be addicted.

Is it April already?  On Friday, I received my fabric from out queen bee Mama Missa.  On Saturday, I started and finished these lovely things.  I just have to say that it's nice that someone has exactly the same color combination's as I do. . oh wait I have now 11 others that do!  Yeah.

Go check out the Aqua & Orange Bee creations over on Flickr

There was barely enough fabric to finish these.  I got through with this one with cute edges.

This one I was having super hard times with. . . so I broke into my own stash (new fabric on the right people)

I must say I really like these wonky log cabins from Quilt Dad

It's the time of the wonk I'm telling ya. That makes it "modern" haha

Sunday Stash Report- Week 13 of 2011

I was just coasting along through the week.  Everything was looking good.  *BAM* my girlfriend came over for a quilting day. I may have hit some local quilting stores with her.  Helping the economy one quilt store at a time.
So here's my loot.

 Such yummy fabrics.

I picked up these lovely things for:

This one is for a little boy in my family.  My girlfriend helped me pick out a colors [from my stash] to go with these.  His is the only one with prints like this because he's so young still.  I hope he'll love it, someday.

I had an awesome quilt day really.  Besides shopping I finished up some bee blocks (for April) and continued on another quilt that I'm loving.

Apparently there isn't enough weekend's in the month.

Wonky aka March - Threadheads bee block

Okay again something new.  I suppose that's what I'm in for while being a 'new' quilter.  I do get to try out all of these new techniques on a small scale.

Today I'll be featuring the wonky star for Beach_Pam with some precious Jamaican fabric.  I'm {again} near the end of the month and she has an awesome photo of these so far.  Seriously this is cute when all of these stars are together.

We used the great tutorial you can follow at The Silly BooDilly. I tried this out a few times on scraps and found that you can't just be SO willy-nilly.  I have to think a bit.  I got through! {A few seams to rip-out and re-sew but ya know}  Here are my two stars for Beach_Pam.

If you're interested see what the other Threadheads are up to at the Flickr site.  Just click on the photo below.

March - Twice as Nice bee

Photobucket
Yeah! It's the second month in my Twice as Nice bee.  What creativity these gals have.  I'm just so excited.  I'm not even thinking about what I'll ask during my month.  Oh that may be a smidge stressful for me.

This month is for terrikuns who is super talented. She wanted blocks of framed squares, starting with a center square from Moda's Make Life. I didn't see how awesome this line was until being introduced.  There are so many reasons I'm stepping outside my comfort zone and joining the quilting community within flickr. If I can live through them. . that will be awesome.

So here are my two blocks. It was the most fun exploring my own stash.  I've been gathering some pretty sweet fabric all this year.  I'm thinking I need to slow myself down now.  That is after I hoard myself some Sherbet Pips.

There are a few more bee blocks in my near future! Oh and I'm having a quilting day with my bestie this weekend.

This on is my fav!  Love it! {I won't tell you how much fabric I had to cut into to get the lines to match .. le'sigh}

More soon

Sunday Stash Report- Week 12 of 2011

Okay the end of my traveling extravaganza around the Pacific Northwest.  This time I went to Seattle.  I had contacting a few bloggers that I stalk follow.  They were super helpful to help me find some stores.  Yet because of all of the 1-year old birthday fun and me taking the mommy out for a spa day, I was only able to visit Fabric Crush. I did find somethings in some stores along the way - shhhhhh. Oh and I had a hair appointment to sassy up my hair-do in my favorite town Walla Walla.  So I hit my TWO favorite stores, Stash and the Walla Walla Sew and Vac.

I picked up at both of my Walla Walla stores, some LOVELY Kate Spain - Central Park.

I learned  from the first Kona Your World swap that everyone (including me) loves red.  I was about to join the second group and I just missed it.  Since I felt bad for myself I picked up some yummy RED!

I also found some more Heather Bailey to round out my stash from weeks ago.

And fittingly enough, as it was St Patties Day on Thursday, I got my green swap squares from my local gals.  These are pretty! I'll continue to ponder what to do with these.

Some more lovely black and whites - these are getting large enough for a real project soon.
And you can't forget to always get some more lovely  ORANGES.  These are perfect for "my" lap quilt.  I've been raiding my oranges for multiple projects, but these are perfect oranges to save for the special project

And last, but not least, this is my biggest find.  She only had left was a remnant cut. This lovely fabric has my home town on it.  All I want to say is 'shut-up' or 'whatever'

No photo here. But, on the sad front I had a knitted toddler sweater 1/3 completed.  And then I realized that I had cast-on too few stictches. . by a LOT.  So I ripped that out on my Thursday 'Fiber Night' that I have with a few gals locally. The good news is that I've started it again and it's looking much better this time.  Yes, I can count.

So here's the damage. Really I will sew sometime this year!

A Blockwork Orange

As if I don't have enough going on or enough learning under my belt.  The fun Flickr groups I'm finding will be the end of me this year.  I'm now officially in FOUR quilting online bee's and now trying a few swaps.  I tested my skills in a swap with the Kona solids swap. My second test is I'm part of A Blockwork Orange swap.

Not only do I get to sew some blocks, try out a new pattern, but I get electric blocks in return.  Okay it is also in ORANGE my current obsession.

We are using Elizabeth Hartman's free Crazy 9-patch tutorial.

Here is what I came up with!

Blockwork Orange Set

Yeah! And if the post office and the federal government actually have a budget I'll get these out of my house tomorrow.  Go me.

Sunday Stash Report- Week 11 of 2011

What a traveling week.  I've been from Portland back home on the east side of the state and then off to Seattle.  Oh what fun.  Those will be on my next stash report (not a lot to report since my stash is pretty rounded out at the moment).

I did pick these few things up at Fabric Depot.  [From the bottom] I was thinking the cream at the bottom is always useful - yummm Kona Solids.  Then to try out the yummy printed fabric.  The tweed in something for fun.  And the striped I got enough from the "sale" rack to complete a binding or some extra boarders on something for a girl quilt.

March {Modern 12}

How lucky am I to be part of a few on-line bee's.  I now get mail all the time, the best part it isn't all bills.

For March in my {Modern 12}group, Jeni from In Color Order is the Queen Bee for the Month.

Since I was the Queen Bee last month I'm excited to sew for others for this group.

Jeni choose square in square patchwork blocks using Christina's tutorial!

Here is what I came up with.

Thanks for the grand inspiration.  I adore these colors together.

For what others will come up with check out our flicker group {Modern 12}

Sunday Stash Report- Week 10 of 2011

Really it's the end of the week?  How did that happen?

Well I got over to Walla Walla again and happened to have a $10 "stash cash" from the lovely store over there called Stash.   I'm in love with Sherbet Pips by Aneela Hoey. So, I told myself why not. I picked up a jelly roll. I can not wait for the yardage to come out in April.

I also picked up an alphabet pattern.  There are some toddlers in my life that so need things from Auntie!

This one is kinda cute. . . I'll see what in my stash can add to this one.  I'm thinking of not quilting this one.  We'll see.

February - Twice as Nice bee - houses

Photobucket

For my 'Twice as Nice bee' the February Assignment was Houses.  Not any ol' house but assigned houses.  Oh this stretched my skills by - a TON.

First was the design.  Oh the things that people came up with before was . . . amazing!  Then trying to execute this was something else.

First I thought that paper piecing was the perfect way to go. . so I attempted to make the circular flying geese pattern found at   The Sometimes Crafter blog.  I think this quarter of a block was pretty successful.  Phew.  The thinking involved was a stretch for sure.

So then I thought.. yep this is what I'll do for the post office assignment.

Thankfully I'm smart enough to test this theory.  It just wasn't working out.

Talking with my 11-year old step-daughter she said.. ohhh it's easy just do .. a square and add a triangle and viola.  Okay big sigh - and gotta move on.  Especially with ra-ra's from an 11-year old non-sewer with lots of cool ideas in her head.

Here is what I finally came up with.

The second block - more learning. This one was to complete a car wash block.  Constantly learning - apparently.  I wasn't that keen on hand-stitching the name.  So let's machine stitch it.. well I like it.  So here's what I did for the Car Wash.

So these were for February.  I already have my fabric for the next assignment.  I was good. . I haven't touched a thing until I got these bad boys done.  SOOOOO happy these are done.   Go check out what the other gals came up with .. so much talent in this group.
